As the largest airport in Spain, the Madrid-Barajas airport receives more than 40 million air passengers every year and is thus Europe’s most important centre of travel after South America and also the hub of the Spanish Air Force. In 2006, Barajas airport in Madrid received the renowned British Stirling Prize for its architecture.
Spain’s capital city’s airport was chosen because of the intricacy of its colourful, 1.2 kilometres long terminal 4 building. This design places high architectural demands on the air conditioning and ventilation system. The objective was to create a pleasant atmosphere for visits to the airport by means of a low-turbulence, draught-free air supply.
